In 2007, three European graduate schools in Plant Sciences, namely the Dutch graduate school Experimental Plant Sciences (EPS), the French doctoral school Sciences du Végétal (SDV) and the German International Max Planck Research School (IMPRS), initiated an international collaboration to improve research, training and education of plant science PhD students in Europe.

After the first successful meeting in Wageningen, three other European institutes of plant sciences were included into the scheme: the UK’s John Innes Centre (JIC), and The Sainsbury Laboratory (TSL), and the Belgian Vlaams Instituut voor Biotechnologie (VIB). In 2015, the 7th EPSR will gather students from 10 European graduate schools.

Since the time the first retreat was organized, it has been received very well and considered to be highly useful by the participating students.

With the participation of Fabien Nogué, as guest speaker - Institut Jean-Pierre Bourgin (Inra, AgroParisTech) from INRA Versailles-Grignon.
